MGH Named Agency of Record for Sunshine 811
The agency will provide all advertising efforts across the state of Florida for the not-for-profit corporation
BALTIMORE (Oct. 19, 2015) – MGH, a full-service marketing communications agency, today announced it has been named the agency of record for Sunshine 811 – a private, not-for-profit corporation created by the state of Florida that educates excavators and homeowners on the call-811-before-you-dig process and provides the free system excavators use to notify utilities of intended digging.
MGH was selected to handle all media buying and planning for the organization to further generate awareness of the importance of calling 811 or making an online request prior to any digging project among homeowners and excavators throughout the state. Previously, MGH has worked with Sunshine 811 to promote the safety message during Safe Digging Month in April through public relations.
“MGH is no stranger to damage prevention and promoting the call before you dig message, and we are thrilled to expand our relationship with Sunshine 811 as its agency of record,” said Chris McMurry, Senior Vice President, Damage Prevention Accounts at MGH. “We look forward to working with Sunshine 811 to create strategic media plans that reach key audiences and drive them to use Sunshine 811’s free service and prevent damage to buried utilities across the state.”
With the recent addition of Sunshine 811, MGH continues to build upon its growing roster of utility damage prevention clients that includes Miss Utility of Maryland/D.C., Miss Utility of Delmarva, Indiana 811, Dig Safely New York, New York 811, Georgia 811, Kentucky 811 and Common Ground Alliance (CGA), the national association for damage prevention and promoter of the national 811 number. The one-call notification centers have all recorded a consistent increase in call volume since the start of their respective campaigns with MGH. National familiarity with 811 has more than doubled since MGH started its campaign for CGA in 2007.
Prior to all digging projects, it is imperative that a call be made to 811 in order to prevent damages caused by striking an underground utility line. When calling 811, a caller is connected to the local one-call notification center which assigns locators to mark the property’s underground utility lines. According to a recent CGA report, an underground utility line is damaged every six minutes nationwide because someone didn’t call 811 or make an online request for utility locate marks before digging.
